Spent much of the day with Meg.

Much more than yesterday.

I realized it was Saturday kind of late and called a couple of her friends so they could talk to her on audio. They told her some stories and that they love her.

One friend told her about a trip her family took to NYC last week. Apparently they couldn’t find where they parked their car for like 3 hours. When she said that I swear Meg smiled. She moved her mouth in a very different way than she has before. It’s harder to read her with the drugs, tubes, and everything taped on her face but this felt like a smile.

Then later when I was telling Susan the story she did it again.

So I started explaining why the tubes were in her mouth and why her head was restrained. I kept asking “if you understand blink” and she kept doing it. Then we started talking about happier things. Some of the stories we had been reminding her about and got some hand squeezes and she even lifted her one hand.

It was several minutes then she seemed tired and I said she could sleep if she needed to. After that she had stopped responding again so I think she understood and went to sleep.

It was pretty amazing and the doctor might try to down play it, but I’m getting more and more convinced this is clear and absolute evidence of her higher brain function, not some reflex.
