Evening Update – Oct. 3

Meg got her gastric feeding tube, aka gtube. They were able to do a “PEG” procedure successfully which is the least invasive method and has the fastest healing/recovery time. This tube has to be left in place a minimum of 30 days but I’m hopeful it will not be required that long. Meg’s number 1 priority is being able to eat.

She has peed a few more times today, so feeling very hopeful her kidneys are recovering. They still plan dialysis but I think she will be even angrier with the machine now. She is supposed to get a longer term dialysis port tomorrow.

She has to get the one in her groin removed soon. It’s not really worked well this whole time but it’s a short term solution that’s really only reasonably safe to use for 2 weeks before infection risk starts climbing. It also affects her comfort when sitting.

I’m torn on the procedure tomorrow. If her kidneys are recovering then she won’t need dialysis long. Doing a shorter term catheter makes more sense because it’s less invasive and faster recovery. But if this pee isn’t providing enough concentration, then she will need dialysis longer and that may limit her options and require additional procedures, which is definitely not what we want.

Other decisions have been easier. Even her leg as much as I hated signing the authorization wasn’t really a decision. It was a choice between her leg and her life. The math is simple there.

Please pray as we make this decision. Pray that the doctors can clearly see the function of her kidneys and the clarity of this choice is clear.

Also please pray Meg sleeps well tonight. She needs her rest and so do I. If she only sleeps well with Susan imma have to stop sleeping over. 😉
