Morning Update – Oct. 5

Meg did well with her procedure yesterday. The one for today was postponed till Thursday because she had a small fever. This is going to involve her heart so they want to be 100% or as close as possible sure that they won’t introduce infection.

Her dialysis started late and finished after 2, but she was able to sleep more because they gave her some of her meds after, so she slept a little better until 4am when maintenance decided they should wake up the floor to fix her door. That may be a slight exaggeration but at least everyone on her immediate hall.

Really angry about that. I mean I can give dialysis a pass. Susan followed up to see if it could have waited till this morning but the dye was damaging her kidneys and we didn’t want to lose the progress. So I know it had to be done. The door opened fine it just didn’t shut so it wasn’t the kind of emergency that couldn’t wait till this morning. That was uncalled for.

In good news, Megan had PT while I was here. She can pull her knee up and lift her foot. That wasn’t possible a couple days ago.

They also approved her to have apple juice on her sponge, which she has really appreciated, though a bit ago she asked for water, which surprised me.

The gtube is doing well and they are changing her feeding to be more like a meal instead of continuous. I’m hoping this helps with her feeling “hungry” all the time by allowing her to feel full and then get hungry at meal times.

Her leg is healing well. Plastic surgery is in looking it over now and evaluating if the drain can come out.

The nurses are removing the old catheter in her groin and one in her neck, so she will be happy getting some of these things out. She has been breathing room air for the past couple of hours and maintaining O2 very well this whole time.

After her procedure Thursday I think we’ll be moving to a new floor. That is something that is bitter sweet. I’m so happy she is ready to “graduate” but the nurses, PAs, NPs, and doctors here are amazing. I keep thinking of that dream I had a couple weeks ago where her room was full and overflowing down the hall with all the people who had helped her that came to say goodbye. That group is getting bigger and bigger.
