Morning Update – Oct. 8

Last night was really tough. Megan threw up around 10, just before getting her meds. I think it was a combination of things including post surgery nausea, reactions to hospital smells, and coughing up some phlegm that I couldn’t deal with fast enough because some things were moved around when she came back from surgery.

This meant she needed to be cleaned up and the trach ties replaced. That resulted in some aggravation in her upper airway which meant lots of coughing all night.

By the time that was all done and she got the rest of her meds it was after 11. She had been up since surgery so I hoped that she would sleep all night.

Sadly the opposite happened. Megan claims she slept some, but it wasn’t for long if it happened. She kept coughing all night and even produced some red tinted mucus. They ordered a chest X-ray for this morning, but based on the sound of her breathing they are pretty sure it is just from the irritation when they changed her trach ties.

Today is the day they do a swallow test. This is the first major milestone for getting the trach removed/closed. If she does well they can clear her to start eating, which is Megan’s number 1 priority.

Prayer requests:

  • lungs
  • sleep
  • that she passes the swallow study with flying colors

Talitha cumi, it’s breakfast time.
