Afternoon Update – Oct. 12
Sorry for the late update. I had a Dr. appt today and Meg has been busy with PT, OT, and getting her trach removed.
Yeah, that’s the big news today. They removed her trach early this afternoon. She is getting used to speaking again. It’s more difficult because the hole is covered with gauze to allow it to heal. That isn’t airtight.
She is quick though. She can cover her throat and that makes it easier to speak but she also learned if she tucks her chin she can talk because her chin covers her throat.
Today OT was having her brush her hair along with washing her face and brushing her teeth. They did a shampoo cap first so it was like a nice spa day with it all. Megan really likes OT.
In other good news, they are apparently 100% certain she is done with dialysis and have scheduled surgery tomorrow to remove her catheter. I feel a bit bad because if I had insisted last week that they do the non-tunneled port then removing it would be a bedside procedure with very little pain or recovery instead of requiring a visit to surgery. Hopefully the pain and recovery are minimal. It’s only been a bit over a week.
Once this is done she only has one “accessory” left. She has the gtube that will have to be removed. She needs to do a bit better job of eating first, but that has to stay for a minimum of 30 days, so about 3 weeks more. I’m hopeful that her eating will come roaring back before that.
Prayer needs:
- Continued recovery
- Her procedure tomorrow
- Improved mental health (it’s tough being in the hospital)
Talitha cumi. You are breaking all expectations. Keep it up.
