Morning Update – Oct. 19

Meg had a rough night last night. 🙁 It wasn’t really unexpected with surgery that morning but I was hoping she might get more comfortable by evening.

Last night I did a presentation I had signed up to do a month before all of this. I went back to the room so I could do the presentation, but before leaving Meg asked if I was going to read to her, so I told her I’d be back right after the presentation to read her a chapter.

When I got back she wanted to lay on her side. She was uncomfortable and I have been holding her on her side in a hug. So I worked out how to hold her with one arm so I had the other free to hold the book and read. She seemed to really enjoy it and crashed out right after I left.

Then she was up and down all night between pain and the nurses having to check on her to give more pain meds.

When I came in this morning she was laying on her side without help. She needs some help to roll over, then she can hold herself on her side. This will really help with her comfort since it opens up new positions. Also should cut back on risk of bedsores. Right now she is sleeping in that position.

She has also been eating better. She ate 3/4 of a hamburger last night and for breakfast she ate most of her fruit bowl. She ate 1.5 tacos for lunch yesterday too. Considering when she first started eating she could only do a couple bites of food, this is a big improvement.

We need to get more info on rehab. She has a wound vac on right now after the surgery yesterday and the doctor who came by to check on her (he was the pediatric cardiologist on call when she was admitted and comes to check on her even when he isn’t on call) said she may not be accepted to rehab on the wound vac. 🙁

I really hope she can get into rehab soon because even with the limited PT and OT she gets here, she is advancing quickly. I feel like getting into rehab will really get her recovering.

Prayer needs:

  • Pain
  • Rest
  • Rehab
  • Overall, general healing

Talitha cumi and be of good cheer.
