Afternoon Update – Nov. 19

Megan is accessory free. They removed her g-tube this morning. She was frustrated because they decided she needed to have no food or fluid by mouth starting at midnight. Earlier yesterday she was told they wouldn’t need to do that since she wasn’t being sedated.

On the upside, it went quickly. I let her sleep till 8 and we had to be downstairs at 9:15. That was plenty of time and we got there fairly quickly. They got her in pretty fast and the doctor did the entire procedure in about 3 seconds. I could have done this. Well, I couldn’t have. A nurse could have done it. Literally he grabbed the tube and gave it a firm yank. It made a LOUD pop sound and everyone in the room but the doctor jumped. It was over fast. Meg experienced some initial pain, but more than that she was bothered by the sound it made.

Meg made it back halfway through her first therapy session and she did well during her sessions this morning. Her stomach is doing better today and hopefully will continue to do well.

She is working on her lateral and standing pivot transfers. She is doing really well with the standing pivot. She needs help for it, but less and less. The lateral transfer she does well in PT, but the bed has more friction and a little raised border around the edge. It makes it more difficult, but she keeps pushing.

Next week she is supposed to be cooking with OT and she is really looking forward to that.

Prayer Needs:

  • foot swelling
  • healing where g-tube was removed
  • general recovery
