Morning Update – Nov. 24
Meg is feeling much better today. It’s good to see her in a good mood and working hard. We had a meeting with the behavioral psychologist. They work with Megan to help her with processing all of this and give her tools to help her process frustration, anxiety, and the like. They went over some of her techniques with us and how we can help guide Megan to use the techniques when she is overwhelmed.
Yesterday we met with the physical therapist and Megan. She was showing us a tool she made for Megan. It is some serious making. She combined several different kinds of velcro with different backings to make a strap that can go around her left leg stump to help Megan lift and move her stump since she has very little muscle and no bone, which makes it difficult for her to move it when she is adjusting her position.
It’s pretty cool to see these things that will help Megan and to see her strength returning. The past day she has been controlling herself when sitting very well. Last night after she went potty and before getting in bed she stood and was pretty well supporting herself. I said she could probably do it without my help, so she grabbed the bed to stabilize herself and stood there without my help, then started to sit in the bed. I put my hands so I was barely touching her with my fingertips and she eased herself down into the bed all by herself. It was very controlled, not a plop. She’ll be getting in and out of bed by herself soon.
In one of the sessions for Susan and I the social worker mentioned maybe having Courtnèe, Meg’s older sister, come and stay the night with her. The rules are that only her 2 caregivers can stay overnight, but the social worker said they may be able to make it happen since Corey will be her roommate and may need to help her in the night when she gets home. It wouldn’t be till closer to Meg coming home, but both of them liked the idea so I hope it can happen.
