Evening Update – Dec. 14

Sorry for posting late. It’s been a busy day. Meg started her day with a shower. Momma helped under OT supervision. Her underdressing got soaked. The plastic things we use to keep the water off failed and it filled with water.

So I had to change it right after. That was tender work but I didn’t do all the painful bits. I did have to replace the sponge but cut it a bit small so it wasn’t packed quiet as well. Less painful though.

When I did the afternoon dressing change I cleaned it and cut the sponge back to the normal size then had to pack it. Definitely more painful but she had Oxy and child life so it’s more tolerable.

After Meg finished getting dressed, brushing her hair, and brushing her teeth it was time to go to PT. They had her wheel over to Johns Hopkins. She was able to do everything herself except one incline that was too much for her. She is getting stronger and stronger.

In the afternoon she had someone come get Susan and I to show off. This time it was her foot flexing. The muscles in her shin are waking up and she can, with help, lift it up. Then she can hold. That was the impressive part. She was holding for 30 seconds and then relaxed and her foot extended significantly. That showed just how much she was doing.

Last week the muscle started firing for the first time, so this is pretty significant improvement.

We ordered her a new shoe last night. Zappos let’s you order single shoes. She is having trouble with her tennis shoes because of the curling in her toes. So we got her an open toed sandle. It’s much easier for her to put it on but looks better than the shoes they had given her to wear. I think more comfy too.

We also practiced car transfers some more this afternoon. She did 2 with the therapist, 2 with mom, and 2 with me. That was a lot and she was shaking at the end.

Oh, and yesterday they weighed Meg and she has gained back about 2.5 pounds. Good to see she is going in the right direction.
