Afternoon Update – Jan. 20
Megan has been doing well. She had an appointment with nephrology (kidney doctor) yesterday and cardiology today. Both doctors have been very happy with her progress. The nephrologist is having us back off the BP meds even more. Her BP was maybe even a little low yesterday, less than 100 over less than 60. It’s a 25% reduction, but likely she will slowly get off the meds completely over time.
The nephrologist also cleared her for a contrast MRI, which is important for the next steps in treating her brain injury and vision.
Today the cardiologist also approved the MRI and the surgery. There are some important considerations for Megan, so we’ll have to have her defibrillator turned off during both the MRI and surgery, but otherwise she can safely have both. We will need to schedule both of them. Megan has a follow up with neurology next week, so we’ll get the MRI scheduled after talking with them.
Both doctors kept going on about how well she is doing. I think it just amazes them to see how strong she is already and her mental recovery is phenomenal.
In other updates, both stair lifts have been installed. The one from the basement to the first floor was done yesterday. Megan is happy because she can go from the basement upstairs without assistance. She still needs to be monitored when doing transfers, but doesn’t need hands on help.
We also had someone give us a wheelchair they had. This allows us to keep a wheelchair on the main level and use it at the top of the stairs. She can transfer to that and either use it to transfer to the dining room chair or we can carry her wheelchair from the basement to the second floor and “leap frog” so she can more easily transfer around at different levels.
Megan will be logging into her virtual school for the first time today. I expect she’ll do the orientation and start finding her way around. Not sure how much work she’ll get done, but she is very excited to be getting school work done again.
