Morning Update – Nov. 1

Ran back to the room to get my shower. When I left Meg was in her chair and had finished breakfast. She slept with her knee up for a while last night and that put pressure on her heel, which has a healing pressure sore. The sore was really bugging her this morning but she pushed through to get up on her foot and into the chair.

She is supporting herself more and more when she moves to sitting on the edge of the bed and when standing to make the transition to the chair.

PT will be coming to work with her. They came just as we were getting ready to move to her chair so she could eat breakfast. Meg said she needed to fuel up before PT. She isn’t wrong. She also has to get a blood draw in a little bit. She is not a fan, but they need to keep monitoring her kidneys.

I also heard from rehab today. Since Megan is in isolation they have to move her into a private room there. This means we have to wait for a private room to open.

I was worried that would mean weeks more so during rounds I asked the Dr. what we could do to get Meg out of isolation. They will be working on that. I basically told them if this meant weeks more waiting for a room only to be confined to a room in rehab for weeks that we needed to consider bringing her home. I know in patient rehab is much better for her recovery but months of isolation is too damaging for her mentally and we have to weigh the cost of that.

The doctor agreed and is going to try and get her off isolation though it may not change how rehab handles it since she was already recorded as being in isolation.

I did hear back from rehab and my worries are slightly unfounded. At this point it looks like she may be delayed 1 day to get a private room and she can still leave the room for therapy, but the therapists have to gown up when working with her.

Prayer needs:

  • get out of isolation
  • get into rehab quickly
  • pain in her foot
  • overall recovery
